Antique Malayer Persian Ivory 1880s Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exquisite piece represents the finest weaving traditions of the Malayer region in Western Persia. Malayer rugs are highly prized among collectors of antique rugs for their fine knotting and unique blend of village and city design influences. The rug's defining characteristic is its luminous field, rendered in a soft, aged ivory color, which provides a sophisticated contrast to the rich, saturated secondary tones. Deep indigo and rust red dominate the intricate motifs, showcasing the enduring quality of natural vegetable dyes typical of the late 19th century. The main field utilizes a highly detailed, repeating pattern of stylized boteh and floral elements, creating a mesmerizing texture.
