Ivory Room Size American Hooked 1890s Wool Antique Rug

Ivory Room Size American Hooked Wool Antique Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional textile represents the peak of domestic American folk art production. The unique, textural quality inherent to the American hooked rug tradition gives this piece a distinctive, tactile charm rarely seen in more formal antique weavings. The gentle, mellow palette is anchored by a luminous ivory ground, allowing the subtle secondary hues—soft mauves, muted blues, and pale pinks—to surface without overwhelming the composition. The field employs a precise, grid-like structure, utilizing an allover pattern of repeating abstract squares, each containing a stylized, curvilinear motif. As a true room size carpet, this piece commands attention, offering both historical interest and functional scale for contemporary interiors.
