Antique Navajo American Gray 1930s Flatweave Rug. This exceptional textile represents the apex of American Southwest weaving tradition, offering a graphic and deeply historic example among antique rugs. The distinct, tightly woven structure and bold geometric composition immediately place it within the celebrated Navajo aesthetic of the early 20th century. The palette is grounded by sophisticated neutrals, featuring a field dominated by soft cream and variegated shades of natural wool, creating a beautiful example of gray color rugs. This subtle, earthy core is dramatically framed by a vibrant, rust-red border, which introduces necessary warmth and highlights the sharp, stepped geometric motifs. The design features a strong, linear arrangement of large, nested diamond medallions flanked by complex triangular and stepped forms.
