Brown Room Size Horse Pattern Antique Chinese Wool Animal Rug

$14,100.00

Antique Chinese Allover Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1935. This exceptional piece exemplifies the dramatic aesthetic shifts occurring in Chinese weaving during the early 20th century. Dominated by a rich, nearly black ground, the design utilizes a limited palette of cream, taupe, and deep chocolate brown, characteristic of sophisticated earth tone color rugs. The central field is a dynamic tableau depicting a group of galloping horses, rendered with bold, graphic outlines. These stylized equines—a traditional symbol of speed, power, and good fortune in Chinese culture—are scattered across the dark plane, creating a sense of movement and energy that elevates this beyond typical decorative antique rugs. A highly structured border frames the kinetic scene, employing contrasting panels and stylized cartouches.
