Antique American Hooked Rug American Brown 1925, Circa Date: 1925. This superb example of folk artistry is characteristic of the American Hooked Rug tradition, where dense, textural looping creates a rich surface quality highly valued by collectors of antique rugs. The central field utilizes a deep, mottled gray-brown, providing a somber yet sophisticated foundation. This use of a rich brown earth tone allows the lighter, more vibrant motifs of the surrounding frame to project forward with clarity and depth. The elaborate border features highly stylized acanthus scrolls and volutes rendered in creamy beige and soft olive tones. Interspersed within this framework are romantic rose clusters and autumnal leaves, defining the overall pattern as distinctly floral rugs.
