Antique Baluch Small Scatter Size Wool Red Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional example of nomadic weaving embodies the rich, geometric tradition of the Baluch tribes who inhabited the borderlands of Iran and Afghanistan. Its dense wool pile and robust construction are characteristic features found across our collection of antique rugs. The field is dominated by a complex lattice of repeating medallions and stylized tribal motifs rendered in deep indigo and dark chocolate brown. The primary background hue is a mesmerizing, saturated crimson, transitioning beautifully into a rich red color palette due to the natural variations inherent in the vegetable dyes used by the weavers. A narrow, serrated border frames the central design, providing a crisp contrast against the heavily patterned field.
