This late nineteenth-century antique tribal geometric Caucasian Lori Pambak rug is a masterpiece of tribal geometry, originating from the high-altitude Kazak region of the South Caucasus. The Lori Pambak group is widely regarded by collectors as one of the most prestigious and recognizable of all Caucasian weavings, known for its bold, monumental graphics and a fierce "highland" aesthetic that has remained virtually unchanged for centuries. The composition is dominated by the iconic Lori Pambak Medallion—a massive, octagonal central shield flanked by two smaller, secondary medallions. These central figures are filled with ancient, stylized symbols, including "S-forms" (dragon motifs) and hooked geometric stars, which were believed by nomadic weavers to offer protection and represent the eternal cycles of nature.
