Antique Chinese - Art Deco Chinese Coral 1920s Coral Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of Art Deco design from the 1920s showcases the bold, simplified aesthetic that revolutionized the production of antique rugs. The composition is distinctly modern yet retains a reverence for traditional Chinese botanical motifs. The intense ground color is a rich, saturated coral, a shade that defines the rug's identity and places it firmly within the period's preference for vivid hues. This striking use of the coral color rugs palette creates a warm, enveloping field that is dramatically punctuated by deep indigo and moss-green cloud bands. Characteristic of the finest Peking production, the design employs large, stylized blossoms that appear to float freely across the field, minimizing the use of borders or strict symmetry.
