Antique Bibikabad Persian Blue 1920s Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional example of bibikabad weaving presents a classic central medallion structure set against a field of complex, finely drawn arabesques. The composition immediately establishes its pedigree among high-quality antique rugs of the early 20th century. The masterful use of color is central to its appeal. A deep, saturated indigo dominates the central field, providing a striking contrast to the pale blush and cream tones of the spandrels and border. Such rich saturation, achieved through natural dyes, elevates this piece within the category of blue color rugs. Examination of the field reveals intricate detailing, showcasing a profusion of stylized palmettes, vines, and small boteh motifs.
