Antique Chinese - Peking Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1900s. This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving transcends typical design conventions, offering a surprisingly modern aesthetic. Its appeal lies in its sophisticated restraint, making it a highly desirable piece among antique rugs. The field is defined by a striking vertical ribbing effect, achieved through alternating bands of deep indigo and soft, aged color. This stark textural contrast highlights the subtle beauty of the primary ground tone, placing it firmly within the category of ivory beige cream colored carpets. Scattered across this dramatic ground are five delicately rendered botanical sprays. These stylized clusters feature traditional Chinese imagery—likely prunus blossoms and bamboo—executed in muted blues and subtle coral accents, providing a minimalist interpretation of classic floral rugs.
