This early 20th-century Antique Israeli Marbediah Carpet (often referred to by the workshop name Marbediah or Marvadiah) is a rare and highly collectible artifact from the early days of Israeli artistic production. Woven in Jerusalem during the British Mandate period (circa 1920s), this rug represents the intersection of European Art Nouveau design aesthetics and a burgeoning national Jewish identity. Finding a room-size specimen from this workshop is exceptionally rare, as most Marbediah pieces were smaller pictorial or prayer-rug formats. The composition is a brilliant example of the Bezalel School influence, where traditional Middle Eastern motifs were reimagined through the organic, curvilinear lens of Art Nouveau. The animal rug design features a rhythmic depiction "fauna" imagery is woven into a flowing tapestry of vines and floral tendrils.
