Artistic Antique Pictorial Hand Shake Pattern Square American Hooked Rug

Antique American Hooked Rug American Blue 1930s, Circa Date: 1930s. This compelling textile is a superb example of the folk art inherent in the American hooked rug tradition. Created during the Depression era, this square piece often featured personal or symbolic imagery rendered in recycled materials, lending it a distinct, textural charm. The field is dominated by a mottled, pale blue color ground, providing a cool foundation for the central design. The primary subject is a deeply symbolic depiction of clasped hands, signifying unity, friendship, or fidelity. This central medallion is encircled by undulating bands of deep indigo and soft rose within the square composition. Scattered throughout the field are abstract, stylized shapes reminiscent of hearts or simplified floral motifs, executed in vibrant reds and pinks that contrast sharply with the muted background.
