A mid-19th-century Turkish Anatolian Melas prayer rug from around 1850, measuring approximately 121.9 × 182.9 cm (about 4'0" × 6'0"). The composition centers on a green field with an ivory border, executed in the prayer-rug format characteristic of Turkish village production for personal devotional use. Melas (or Milas) is a small town in southwestern Anatolia, historically a center of Turkish village rug weaving with a distinctive vocabulary of mihrab (prayer arch) compositions and characteristic golden-yellow, green, and red color palettes. Hand-knotted wool. Authentic one-of-a-kind antique village rug.
