Antique Bijar Hallway Runner Wool Green Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1800s. This exceptional example of weaving from the Kurdish regions of Iran / Persia exemplifies the robust construction and dense knotting for which Bijar carpets are renowned. Woven during the 19th century, this piece possesses the structural integrity required of a highly functional floor covering, surviving two centuries with remarkable clarity. The deep, saturated field employs a rich, near-black indigo ground, punctuated by stylized boteh and floral sprays rendered in terracotta, ivory, and subtle shades of oxidized green color rugs. The intricate, repeating design utilizes an allover pattern that minimizes visual breaks, drawing the eye smoothly down the length of the textile.
