Antique Tribal Geometric Flora and Fauna Design Romanian Bessarabian Flat Weave Kilim Rug

Antique Bessarabian Romanian Flat Woven Rug, Circa Date: 1871. This exceptional piece represents the height of 19th-century Eastern European textile artistry. The style, known as Bessarabian, often draws upon local folk traditions while incorporating sophisticated color palettes. The dramatic field is rendered in a deep, saturated brown that reads visually as one of the most striking black color rugs from the period. This dark ground provides a powerful contrast to the repeating motifs rendered in cream, pale gold, and rust red, highlighting the graphic, almost pixelated nature of the weaving. Characterized by a highly stylized, repeating sequence of figurative and abstract elements, the composition utilizes an effective allover design structure.
