Antique Square Soumak Persian Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional example of soumak rugs represents the pinnacle of late 19th-century weaving from the Caucasus region, characterized by its durable, complex structure. It is a striking piece among our curated collection of antique rugs. The composition features a dynamic, diagonal arrangement that creates an effective allover pattern. Bold bands of deep indigo and rich madder red intersect across the field, framing repeating octagonal medallions filled with traditional tribal motifs, including stylized animal forms and powerful swirling hooks, lending the piece a vigorous sense of movement. Woven with naturally dyed wool, the palette is intensely saturated.
