Antique Chinese - Square Ningxia Chinese Brown 1880s Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional example of late Qing Dynasty weaving represents the pinnacle of Ningxia artistry in a rare square format. Characterized by its sophisticated use of negative space and deeply symbolic iconography, this piece stands as a superb specimen among all antique rugs of the period. The primary field color is a refined, luminous earth tone, providing a warm contrast to the striking indigo and powder blue accents. This subtle coloration allows the scattered auspicious symbols—including vases, scrolls, and stylized clouds—to float gracefully across the square surface. The masterful application of natural dyes creates a patina that defines the finest brown earth tone color rugs.
