Antique Spanish Cuenca Hallway Runner Rug, Circa Date: 1930s. This exquisite Spanish Cuenca runner exemplifies the European tradition of decorative weaving, characterized by its dense, symmetrical composition. The piece is a fine example of antique rugs that draw heavily on neoclassical and Baroque aesthetics, adapted for the 20th-century interior. The central field features an intricate, repeating pattern of stylized urns and overflowing bouquets, rendered in a sophisticated palette. The allover design avoids open space, creating a rich tapestry effect, typical of high-quality Spanish weaving intended for grand homes that favored European court styles. A striking element of this piece is the masterful use of color. The rich maroon border frames a central panel dominated by soft gold and subtle blue accents, punctuated by lovely hues of coral.
