Antique Heriz - Silk Small Scatter Size Silk Blue Rug, Circa Date: 1870s. This exceptional piece stands apart from the typical wool productions of the Heriz region, utilizing a luxurious silk foundation and pile. Its age places it among the finest examples of late 19th-century antique rugs from Northwest Persia, showcasing a level of detail rarely achieved in larger, coarser weaves. The central field is dominated by a luminous, pale aqua-blue ground, a sophisticated shade within the spectrum of blue color rugs. This cool hue provides a striking backdrop for the complex, stylized Tree of Life design, which ascends from a dramatic, dark indigo niche at the base, featuring stylized avian forms reminiscent of peacocks. Characteristic of the Heriz aesthetic, the design employs bold geometry softened by intricate detailing.
