Antique Serab Square Small Scatter Size Wool Coral Rug, Circa Date: 1850s. This exceptional square example of an early weaving displays the characteristic tribal strength and durable wool construction for which the region is known. The Serab area, located in Northwest Persia, specialized in pieces featuring bold, stylized designs, making this a classic serab example. The central field is dominated by a rich, naturally dyed coral hue, a highly sought-after shade that provides warmth and depth. This vibrant background hosts a series of interconnected, stylized medallions rendered in deep indigo, cream, and russet tones. The sophisticated use of this primary hue places it among the finest coral color rugs of the period. The composition relies on strong, defined lines and angular motifs typical of nomadic artistry.
