Antique Serab Persian Brown 1890s Hallway Runner Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional example of the serab weaving tradition originates from Northwest Persia and showcases the robust, nomadic aesthetic characteristic of the region. Its long, narrow format confirms its original purpose as a sophisticated hallway runner, designed to anchor transitional spaces with warmth and historic presence. The field is dominated by a rich, naturally dyed camel-hair brown, forming a grounding earth-tone color palette. This neutral base is dramatically contrasted by saturated madder reds and deep indigo blues used within the geometric motifs, lending the piece a vibrant yet restrained intensity. The careful use of undyed wool in the lighter accents speaks to the authenticity of these late 19th-century textiles.
