Antique Serab Persian Allover Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional Serab piece originates from the rugged tribal weaving centers of Northwest Persia, representing the finest examples of 19th-century nomadic artistry. The dense, durable knotting and use of high-quality wool are hallmarks of these highly sought-after antique rugs. The composition features an engaging allover lattice of stylized, repeating geometric medallions, often interpreted as highly abstracted animal or plant forms. This intricate patterning is set against a luminous, aged ivory field, which provides a striking contrast to the rich palette of madder red, indigo blue, and earthy browns derived from traditional vegetable dyes. The patina achieved over 140 years of use lends a soft, painterly quality to the surface.
