Antique Mahal Room Size Wool Rug, Country of Origin: Iran Persia, Circa Date: 1940s. This exceptional example of a Mahal weaving presents a sophisticated, large-format design, perfectly scaled for a contemporary interior requiring a room size foundation. The field is dominated by a rich, faded coral hue, providing a warm backdrop for the complex floral sprays. These stylized palmettes and rosettes are rendered in contrasting shades of deep indigo, soft blue, and sage green. This specific aesthetic is characteristic of the finest Iranian Persian rugs produced during the mid-20th century. Mahals are renowned for their durable wool construction and robust knotting, ensuring longevity and resilience. The wide, dark indigo border frames the composition beautifully, utilizing repeating geometric and stylized floral cartouches that anchor the vibrant central field.
