Antique Sultanabad Persian Medallion Knotted Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional piece exemplifies the grand scale and bold, stylized design characteristic of Sultanabad rugs. Woven in the early 20th century, it retains the classical structure beloved by Western decorators while showcasing a softened, earthy palette achieved through natural dyes. The central medallion dominates the field, rendered in rich ochre and deep sepia tones, providing a striking contrast to the surrounding field of muted taupe and moss green. This tradition of masterful design and robust construction is a hallmark of the finest Iranian / Persian rugs produced during this era, demonstrating a commitment to large-format decorative excellence.
