Antique Mahal Persian Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1930s. This magnificent example of antique rugs from the Arak region showcases the classic Mahal aesthetic, known for its robust construction and sophisticated, large-scale designs suitable for a primary living space. The composition features a central stepped medallion executed in rich blues and terracotta, set against a stunning ivory ground. This light field allows the intricate secondary motifs, including palmettes and stylized vines, to stand out with striking clarity and detail. While technically a Mahal, the overall design density and palette share a strong affinity with the grander Sultanabad style, characterized by a slightly more angular interpretation of classical Persian weaving. The repeating boteh and stylized leaves create a dynamic, all-over movement within the main border.
