Antique Sultanabad Persian 1880s Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional piece exemplifies the grand scale and robust design characteristic of Sultanabad rugs. Woven in the late 19th century, it captures the transition toward more open, decorative compositions favored by Western markets seeking sophisticated floor coverings. The deep indigo field provides a striking contrast to the terracotta border, a classic color pairing found in high-quality Iranian / Persian weaving. The palette is further enriched by accents of soft gold, olive green, and faded rose, lending the piece a sophisticated, aged patina that only genuine antiquity can achieve. Executed in a narrow, elongated format, this piece functions perfectly as one of the finest hallway runner rugs from the period.
