Antique Peking Square Small Scatter Size Wool Black and Yellow Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exquisite piece from the Republican era of China exemplifies the sophisticated geometric abstraction typical of early 20th-century antique rugs in a square format. The design relies on a striking contrast between the luminous field and the bold, graphic motifs. The field is dominated by a rich, warm yellow, providing a compelling backdrop for the powerful central medallion. This medallion, rendered in deep, saturated black wool, utilizes the traditional Chinese key or fret pattern, creating a complex, interlocking maze that draws the eye inward with precision and symmetry. Given its dimensions, this square rug falls into the highly versatile small scatter size category, making it ideal for placement in hallways, beside beds, or as a foundational accent in a smaller study.
