Antique Peking Room Size Wool Sand, Yellow Rug

Antique Peking Room Size Wool Sand, Yellow Rug, Circa Date: 1900s. This magnificent example of the Chinese Peking weaving tradition presents a sophisticated palette centered on a luminous sand or yellow color rugs field. The deep indigo and slate blue motifs provide a striking contrast, defining the classic, restrained aesthetic of the early 20th century. The design features an open, balanced composition typical of the period, executed in a sparse, linear drawing style that distinguishes Peking production. The field is populated with stylized cultural symbols—including vases, butterflies, and abstract geometric forms—all rendered in the characteristic deep indigo against the warm ground. The complex border system frames the central design with multiple guard stripes featuring traditional Chinese meander and geometric key patterns.
