Antique Peking Room Size Wool Multi Rug

Antique Peking Room Size Wool Multi Rug, Circa Date: 1900s. This exceptional Chinese weaving represents a striking departure from traditional court designs, favoring a bold, proto-modernist aesthetic. The large scale and powerful composition make it a superb example of room size rugs suitable for grand, architecturally significant interiors. The field is defined by an extraordinary horizontal abrash effect, where variegated threads of blue, taupe, and cream create a dynamic, textural rhythm. This intentional technique results in a sophisticated interplay of hues, classifying it among the finest multicolor jewel tone rugs that transcend simple palette definitions through their depth and movement. Minimalist geometry governs the composition, featuring four stark black Shou symbols—the ancient Chinese motif for longevity—anchoring the corners.
