Antique Peking Large Room Size Wool Brown, Camel Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This magnificent example of Chinese weaving represents the refined aesthetic of early 20th-century Peking production. The expansive camel field provides a striking contrast to the dramatic, deep indigo border, a characteristic feature of high-quality antique rugs. The central area of the rug is largely open, allowing the luxurious sheen of the wool pile to dominate, interrupted only by a delicate, symmetrical floral medallion placed centrally. The primary decorative elements are reserved for the border and spandrels, where scrolling vines and large blossoms are rendered in shades of cream, beige, and rich indigo. The intricate border design showcases classic Chinese symbolism, including stylized peonies and butterflies nestled among the foliage.
