Antique N.W. Persian Oversized Room Size Wool Blue Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1863. This magnificent example of 19th-century weaving represents the enduring tradition of Iranian / Persian rugs. Its extraordinary length and dense, all-over design confirm its status as a truly exceptional piece of history. The field is dominated by a rich, saturated indigo, providing a dramatic contrast to the terracotta and rust tones that define the intricate motifs. While the overall visual impression is one of deep red, the foundational blue color rugs anchor the complex repeating pattern, which appears to be a highly stylized interpretation of traditional regional designs. Woven with exceptionally fine, lustrous wool and colored using natural vegetable dyes, this piece speaks to the high standards of weaving prevalent in the region during the Qajar period.
