Antique N.W. Persian Allover Geometric Hand Knotted Pile Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional example of a late 19th-century weaving from the N.W. Persian region displays the powerful, graphic sensibility characteristic of nomadic and village production. The deep indigo field provides a striking contrast to the bold, terraced medallions that dominate the composition. The central field utilizes an impressive allover pattern of stylized, architectural forms, rendered in striking ivory, rust, and terracotta hues. These large, repeating motifs are highly detailed, featuring internal geometric lattice work and small, abstract symbols woven into the dense wool pile. The use of natural dyes is evident in the rich saturation of the wool, particularly the commanding blue color of the ground, which anchors the entire design. Despite its age, this piece retains excellent clarity of design.
