Antique Large Chinese - Ningxia Knotted Rug, Circa Date: 1850s. This magnificent example of 19th-century Chinese weaving presents a rare and powerful aesthetic. Its substantial dimensions qualify it as a truly large oversized rug, perfectly suited for grand interiors requiring historical presence and scale. The field is dominated by a rich, saturated indigo, characteristic of the finest natural dyes used in the region. This deep hue provides a dramatic contrast to the salmon-peach and pale cream accents, placing this piece among the most compelling blue color rugs of the period. Unlike centralized medallion designs, this composition employs a dense, repeating structure where stylized mythical beasts and large floral heads are distributed evenly across the surface.
