Antique Large Bibikabad Persian Allover Geometric Knotted Rug, Country of Origin: Iran / Persia, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional piece represents the finest weaving traditions of the Hamadan region, specifically the bibikabad style. Crafted in the late 19th century, this textile showcases the enduring complexity and enduring quality of Iranian Persian rugs produced before the commercial expansion of the 20th century. The field is characterized by a stunning, dense allover geometric design, often interpreted as a highly stylized Herati pattern, rendered primarily in a deep, saturated indigo. The masterful use of this rich, dark ground color, characteristic of many important blue color rugs, provides a dramatic contrast to the intricate motifs executed in tones of terracotta, saffron, and ivory.
