Antique Khamseh Persian Geometric Knotted Red Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional piece represents the finest weaving traditions of the Khamseh tribal confederacy in Fars province. Its design is characterized by a powerful central axis of stacked diamond medallions, a hallmark of these rare antique rugs. The field is dominated by a rich, deeply saturated madder dye, presenting a magnificent red hue that has mellowed beautifully over more than a century. This warm ground is densely populated with stylized boteh and small geometric flora, creating a mesmerizing texture that draws the eye inward. The structure features bold, contrasting spandrels, providing a necessary visual anchor against the dynamic red field. Within the central diamond medallion, smaller, finely articulated motifs highlight the weaver's technical skill and mastery of complex geometric layouts.
