Antique Chinese - Peking Chinese Gray 1930s Rug, Circa Date: 1930s. This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese weaving showcases the refined aesthetic typical of the Peking workshops. Its composition balances expansive negative space with meticulously rendered symbolic motifs, a hallmark of high-quality antique rugs from this era. The central field employs a sophisticated, warm taupe-gray, providing a neutral yet rich backdrop that defines the piece's elegance. This subtle, earth-toned foundation is dramatically offset by the vibrant coral border and the deep, saturated indigo used for the internal framing and detailing. The use of this specific gray color rugs palette ensures adaptability while retaining historical character. Scattered across the field and densely integrated within the borders are traditional Chinese auspicious symbols.
