$6,800.00

Antique Gafsa Tunisia Flat Weave Rug, Circa Date: 1935. This extraordinary North African flat weave presents a striking, highly organized grid composition, characteristic of the Gafsa region's distinctive folk art tradition. Such pieces are highly sought after by collectors of antique rugs. The design utilizes a dark, almost black, lattice structure that frames individual pictorial panels. Each square contains a unique, vibrant tableau—ranging from stylized animals and human figures to complex geometric zigzags and diamond patterns—creating a dynamic allover rugs effect across the surface. The palette is remarkably rich, employing a wide spectrum of vegetable dyes including soft rose, rust orange, indigo, and sage green.
