Antique Chinese - Peking Chinese Ivory 1890s Ivory Rug, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional late 19th-century weaving exemplifies the refined elegance of Peking production, characterized by a sophisticated interplay of open space and restrained ornamentation. As a prime example of antique rugs from the Imperial era, its design philosophy prioritizes clarity and balance over dense figuration. The expansive central field is rendered in a luminous, softly aged ivory hue, providing a tranquil foundation for the entire composition. Subtle, tone-on-tone motifs, possibly stylized shou symbols or archaic geometric forms, are ghosted across the surface, maintaining the field's serenity. This masterful use of a pale, neutral ground places it among the most desirable ivory color rugs sought after for contemporary interiors.
