Antique Chinese - Peking Black 1920s Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exquisite piece represents the height of the Chinese Art Deco weaving period, characterized by bold, simplified designs and striking color contrasts. It is a superb example of antique rugs from the early 20th century, showcasing the era's sophisticated blend of traditional motifs and Western aesthetic influence. The dramatic, deep field color, often described as a saturated midnight blue or true black color rugs, provides a powerful and grounding backdrop for the lively central medallion. This dark ground expertly emphasizes the bright, stylized floral arrangement emerging from a decorative urn, a classic representation of prosperity and longevity. The overall design features a highly stylized interpretation of the Tree of Life motif, rendered in the distinct, simplified aesthetic of the Peking style.
