Antique Chinese-Mongolian Square Room Size Wool Ivory Rug

Antique Chinese - Mongolian Square Room Size Wool Ivory Rug, Circa Date: 1860s. This exceptional example of nomadic weaving presents a striking, minimalist aesthetic defined by its dramatic contrast. Its substantial dimensions and unique square format qualify it as a true room size piece, dominating any space with its bold graphic presence. Woven with high-quality wool, the field utilizes a rich, creamy ivory color that has mellowed beautifully over more than a century and a half. This light ground provides the perfect canvas for the deep indigo or black motifs, highlighting the clarity and precision of the design work. The design relies entirely on crisp, rectilinear forms, centered around a bold, circular medallion and framed by a complex, stepped border.
