Antique Chinese - Baotou Hallway Runner Wool Blue Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional Baotou runner exemplifies the high artistry of early 20th-century antique rugs, presenting a dramatic and complex pictorial narrative. The deep, saturated indigo field provides a striking contrast to the luminous gold and beige elements of the landscape. The central medallion is replaced by a magnificent scene depicting auspicious mythological creatures. A powerful golden dragon ascends through stylized clouds on the left, balanced by an elegant phoenix perched near a gnarled tree on the right. This pairing symbolizes harmonious union and imperial grace, rendered with characteristic Chinese precision. The masterful use of color is evident in the rich, almost midnight blue color rugs of the background, which enhances the vibrancy of the accent hues.
