Antique Chinese - Art Deco Room Size Wool Purple Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional piece of textile history is a prime example of the transitional style that emerged in the early 20th century. The bold design and saturated color palette distinguish it among antique rugs. The central field is dominated by a rich, luminous purple or magenta, characteristic of the period's experimental dyes. This striking purple color provides a dramatic backdrop for the stylized, repeating vine and scroll motifs that define the Art Deco aesthetic. The composition is framed by a contrasting sage-green border, featuring highly detailed, naturalistic depictions of flowering branches and exotic birds in flight. These elements blend traditional Chinese iconography with the simplified lines favored by Western modernism.
