Antique Caucasian - Shirvan Hallway Runner Rug, Circa Date: 1880s. This exceptional example of nomadic weaving originates from the Caucasus region, representing the finest traditions of antique rugs. The deep indigo field provides a striking foundation for the densely packed, highly stylized geometric motifs that define the Shirvan style, a hallmark of 19th-century tribal artistry. The palette is classic for the region, utilizing rich madder reds, terracotta, saffron yellows, and ivory highlights against the commanding blue color rugs ground. The central axis is punctuated by repeating, stepped diamond medallions, often enclosing smaller, highly detailed tribal symbols and stylized zoomorphic forms that reflect the weaver's personal narrative.
