Antique Baotou Small Scatter Size Wool Brown Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exquisite piece represents the sophisticated Chinese weaving tradition of the early Republican era. Its construction utilizes fine wool, characteristic of high-quality antique rugs from this period, offering a dense, luxurious pile and exceptional durability. The central field is dominated by a rich, warm chocolate brown earth tone, providing a grounding backdrop for the detailed still life composition. The use of this deep, saturated hue is typical of Baotou production, which often favored monochromatic or limited palettes to emphasize form over excessive color variation. The intricate design features a classic Chinese "Hundred Antiques" arrangement, showcasing stylized vases overflowing with peonies and other auspicious blossoms, flanked by stacked books and scrolls.
