Antique American Square Blue Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 88 x 91 inches (7'4" x 7'7"). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor. The field is dominated by a saturated, deep indigo, offering a striking canvas for the repeating geometric motifs. This particular shade of blue color textiles provides a powerful foundation, evoking the utilitarian yet artistic spirit of the era. The design eschews traditional Oriental borders in favor of an uninterrupted, allover pattern inspired by American quilt traditions, specifically the "Star of Bethlehem" or "Ohio Star" block.
