Antique American Hooked Rug Room Size Wool & Cotton Ivory, Circa Date: 1890s. This exceptional piece of American textile history showcases the sophisticated evolution of the hooked technique, moving beyond utilitarian mats into decorative floor coverings. The generous scale and refined palette, centered on a luminous ivory ground, elevate this rug to a fine art status, reflecting the late 19th-century taste for light, airy interiors. The composition features a highly decorative, slightly abstracted floral arrangement, anchored by a central cartouche framed in rich brown scrolling foliage. Unlike traditional medallion carpets, the field utilizes an energetic, near-allover design where bouquets of deep burgundy, dusty rose, and violet wool blossoms are distributed symmetrically, lending the piece a dynamic yet balanced visual rhythm.
