Antique American Multicolor 1920s Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 41 x 55 inches (3'5" x 4'7"). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor. The design features six large, stylized star medallions, meticulously appliquéd onto a deep, nearly black ground. The use of varied hues—ranging from deep maroon and forest green to soft pink and sky blue—creates a dynamic visual field, placing this piece among the finest multicolor jewel tone textiles. Although the medallions are distinct focal points, their repetition across the field creates the effect of an allover pattern contained within the light lavender border.
