Antique American 1920s Square Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 78 x 79 inches (6'6" x 6'7"). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor. This extraordinary square textile represents a rare intersection of traditional American folk art and the craft of quilt making. The square design employs a highly structured, repeating diamond grid, characteristic of the quilt aesthetic. Within each diamond, a dense scattering of small, repeating motifs creates a subtle texture against the light ground. This overall arrangement establishes a compelling visual rhythm, utilizing an allover pattern structure that ensures visual interest across the entire field.
