Antique American 1920s Multicolor Square Quilt: a quilt made in the United States, 72 x 78 inches (6' x 6'6"). It is pieced from fabric and quilted through to a backing, not knotted or woven like a rug. Quilts like this were made as bed coverings; today they are hung as textile art or used as a throw or bed topper. Because it is a textile, we do not recommend it for use on the floor. The visual impact of this piece is immediate, defined by broad, horizontal bands of saturated primary red alternating with a pale, creamy yellow ground. While the title mentions multicolor jewel tone textiles, the palette here is intentionally restrained, using high contrast to achieve a powerful, graphic statement that anticipates later mid-century design trends.
