A striking antique blue Chinese Art Deco, hand-knotted in wool in northeastern China around 1920. This one-of-a-kind piece showcases an open field medallion across a blue palette, and measures 11'0" x 16'0". Chinese Art Deco rugs emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, when weavers in Tianjin - most famously in the workshops associated with Walter Nichols - paired traditional Chinese craft with the bold, asymmetrical, modern aesthetic of the Art Deco movement. The result is a distinctive look: spacious fields, oversized blossoms and a fresh, painterly use of color. Its generous, oversized scale makes a statement in a great room, primary suite or open-plan space. Its cool blues sit beautifully against warm woods, brass accents and neutral walls. Hand-knotted from durable wool, it is made to be lived with and handed down.
